"Interactive Historical Atlas"
  • Interactive Historical Atlas
  • Of the
  • American Civil War
2
We have one map for each and every single day of the entire war
  • 1,694 maps in all from Lincoln’s election to the surrender of the last Confederate units in the Indian Territory.
3
The maps will display on your computer in the Web Browser
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer and the Adobe SVG viewer plugin are recommended for best viewing.
4
There is a calendar index for each set of maps and a quick index on each map
  • This allows you to quickly find the day you are looking for or go to another day.
5
Each map shows the location of almost all skirmishes and minor actions on the day they occurred
  • We do not believe that this information can be found anywhere else at this level of detail in time.
6
States, cities, and towns are colored according to who was in control on that particular day
  • This shows the fluid situation more clearly than maps which show a front, or line of control.  Some towns changed hands frequently within a matter of days.
7
All maps are interactive allowing you to zoom in for more detail or move the map around
8
Locations of armies are displayed, and distinguished between stationary armies and armies in motion
9
As you roll over names and symbols, popup information will display
10
States, Departments, and Armies link to a new page with more detailed information
11
Each map also has a chronology of what was happening on that day.
  • For example from Jun 30, 1863:
  • Jan 4, 1863 - Jun 30, 1863, Tullahoma TN, CS Army of Tennessee camped around

Army Departments and borders are shown

Our Civil War Atlas comes in two versions: CD and DVD
  • The CD version has a complete set of maps of the Confederate States in the southeast where most of the action occurred.
15
The DVD version has much more information
  • The DVD version has, in addition, a complete set of maps for the entire United States, complete sets for each of the Confederate states except Texas, each of the Border States, and both Northern and Eastern Virginia. The DVD also has separate campaign maps plus detailed individual state and unit (army level) information listing who was in command and campaigns and battles they participated in. Finally the DVD version has over 1,000 local reference maps for all counties where actions occurred, which show and list all the actions as well as forts both chronologically and alphabetically.
